Amidst bitter politicking, the Abia State House of Assembly, on Tuesday voted to impeach its Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji.
Although details of the impeachment remains sketchy, but a ranking member of the House from Abia North Senatorial District who preferred not to be named confirmed the action of the lawmakers to NIGERIA PRESS on Tuesday morning.
NIGERIA PRESS gathered that Chukwudi Apugo (Umuahia East), moved the motion of impeachment and was seconded by Hon. Okey Igwe ( PDP, Umunneochi).
Mr Orji, representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, lost February 25 national assembly poll for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.
Mr Orji, son of the former Governor Theodore Orji, lost to the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Obi Aguocha.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Uma Oke, said the LP candidate polled 48,199 votes to defeat Mr Orji of the PDP, who scored 35,196.
He said Ogbonnaya Obilor of APC had 4,042 votes, while Ogbonna Abariukwu of APGA got 2,758.
NIGERIA PRESS could not reach Mr Orji on phone to react to the impeachment by the lawmakers.
