It is quite sad and unfortunate that Abia State University under Okezie Ikpeazu as the governor of Abia State has lost integrity and honor. The institution has been reduced to nothing in every academic rating and standard. Abia State university is one of the public institutions in Nigeria today creeping with the very worst public image ever.

When an institution of learning becomes a place politicians and their wives go to collect undue certificates without due academic scrutiny, such institution begins to lose its credibility, integrity and reputation.

One out of the innumerable academic recklessness Abia State university has committed in recent times was the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Management it conferred on Okezie Ikpeazu’s wife, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu.

The same doctrine of Animal kingdom that Okezie Ikpeazu used in killing Abia State civil service is what he has introduced in Abia State university. The animal kingdom style that saw the promotion of one Mr. Kelechi Imoria from level 14 to Accountant general (level 16) without any qualifying examination. Same style that saw the promotion of Okezie Ikpeazu’s wife from level 12 officer to director with hope to be appointed a permanent secretary, is what Okezie Ikpeazu is now replicating in Abia State university unabated.

How did Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, an active civil servant who was promoted in service within same timeframe get a doctorate degree from Abia State university? A civil servant in active service who is desirous of getting additional academic degrees can only do so by way of getting a study leave with pay or without pay. The civil service culture suggests that a civil servant who is on a leave cannot be promoted at the time such person is on leave.

So, for Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu to be promoted from level 12 officer to director means that she wasn’t on a leave. This now brings up the question,“ how did she enroll in school for both masters and doctorate degrees without being granted a leave?”

At what point did she attend classes,and at what point did she carryout her job as an active civil servant that qualified her for promotion ?

Do you now see how Abia State university has been reduced to a mere political institution by Okezie Ikpeazu, Uche Ikonne and Maxwell Ogbulu? The political doctorate degree they awarded to Okezie Ikpeazu’s wife is the greatest scam ever.

Abians have prayed and worked assiduously for a responsible governor to take over the helm of affairs in Abia State; as we bask in the euphoria of this new dawn in Abia, we pray that some of the miscreants appointed as stooges by Okezie Ikpeazu to head public institutions in the State be shown the exit door for the dignity of our public institutions to be restored.
